After a long hiatus, I decided to write again.
This time, I would like to address the issue of being 'born in the wrong generation', most often disgruntled edgy 12-year-old seen in the comment section of Beatles videos.
But are you really born in the wrong generation? I'd say, you are born in the right generation. Right, maybe 'mainstream' music isn't as good as it was, but you have the internet, and about 50 years of music to go and listen to on a whim! If that isn't paradise, I don't know what is.
Okay, let's take it back a notch. Let's say, you are a 15-year-old in 1963, when 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' first came out. Great, you are witnessing the start of a musical revolution. But what else is there? What other great music do you have to choose from that year? Nothing much. You have a limited early Beatles discography, and this. Not fun, is it?
Going back to the Beatles. It's 1963, 'Let it Be' didn't exist. 'Yellow Submarine' didn't exist. 'Hey Jude' didn't exist. Nothing. Just a handful of songs. Take it a step further. Rolling Stones? They were a year old, barely having anything substantial. Heavy Metal is nonexistent in 1963, Black Sabbath didn't come around for another five years. Punk Rock won't be there until the late 70s. 'Good' pop? That's in the 1980s. Grunge was in the 90s. I could go on all night.
If you were a teenager in 1963, you'd be pretty freaking miserable, trust me on that.
